Our Team / Daniel Walters

Daniel L. Walters is a South Carolina native and law clerk at McCutchen McLean. He primarily supports the firm's elder law, estate planning, business, and tax practice — assisting with research and with drafting trusts, wills, powers of attorney, and related documents that help clients plan with clarity.
He began service in the South Carolina Army National Guard at age 17 and currently serves as a First Lieutenant and Infantry Platoon Leader. He was named the 2021 South Carolina Army National Guard Soldier of the Year, has earned multiple Army Commendation and Army Achievement Medals, and has completed Airborne, Ranger, and Air Assault training.
Daniel earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of South Carolina in 2023, graduating magna cum laude, with Global Leadership Distinction, and as a Distinguished Military Graduate. He is pursuing his J.D. at the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law and expects to graduate in December 2026 with Pro Bono Distinction. During law school he studied in Oxford, Edinburgh, and London; received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Elder Law; and serves as a research assistant with the Veterans Legal Clinic, focusing on elder law, veterans' benefits, and issues affecting aging veterans and their families. After graduation, he plans to continue serving McCutchen McLean clients in elder law and to assist veterans with VA disability appeals.
Outside the office, Daniel enjoys weightlifting, boxing, competitive Yu-Gi-Oh!, and smoking brisket for his wife, Samantha.
